Memorial Day!

We biked down to the park along the East River in Williamsburg. It was sunny and breezy and perfect for flying a kite and playing ball with friends.

Stuffee

The New York Hall of Science came to the YMCA with Stuffee. Their giant stuffed animal who is happy to demonstrate to the kids all his different organs inside his body. The kids had been studying the body and knew what everything was and where it belonged!
Here are some photos, and check out the slideshow to see the rest!

The small intestine is longer than the large intestine!

I hear the heart ticking...

Kite Festival, McCarren Park

We headed toward the kite festival this afternoon hoping to fly a kite. The weather was perfect, wind! We got our kite and up it went! All was well, but boy it's a lot of work keeping the kite up and trying not to get crossed with other strings. Sort of like fishing in a fishing derby. You have to feel and ride the wind, reminds me of surfing.
That's our kite in the middle, the blue spec with the red tail.
Kites peppering the afternoon sky.
Time for a break and ices. Looks like the colors match our kite.
The walk home with Manhattan in the distance. We spotted Chrystler building (next to the water tower) and Empire State across the river.
This stretch is still industrial. Love the old building fronts.

Snake

The Greenpoint YMCA Pre-School has had some amazing programs lately. I've been doing photos and slide-shows, and now I'm working on the animals. More to come, but had to post this one now.

Working with Photoshop

I'm trying to learn new things with photoshop. I downloaded some samples from Rad Action Mix. Doug has amazing instructions to go with it, I've already learned something new. Here is something I came up with just playing with layer masks in his tutorial, and I kind of like it. (I don't usually go for big special effects and posterization, but this is kind of fun.)
What do you think?
