Miami
I have been so bad at blogging, abandoning my old best friend to my new best friend Facebook. So don't feel rejected, here are a few from my recent trip to Miami to join with my 3 other sisters and their families, extended families, step families...etc for some fun in the sun!

Southern California Backyard
I found this collage I put together of Polaroid SX-70s and then color xeroxed. I love the dreamy quality of the photos...
To me it defines a little of the environment of pre-teen in southern california, including the black cat walking in the empty swimming pool.

Erev Yom Kippur
I came upon this picture I had floating on my desktop. I made it for my Dad when he was in the hospital to go on the cover of his notebook (my sister Sue says always have your own loose leaf notebook for all the doctors reports, labs, etc, ie keep your own chart!)
Yom Kippur is a day of remembrance and atonement, so here are some photos to remember my Dad, his grandchildren, and his wife Alice, all taken Nov/Dec 2003. I'll have to find a photo of my mom and add that too (she passed away in 92-before the digital age, she would have loved it! She had one of the first IBM PCs, before PC was a household name.

Acme Fish
If you like smoked salmon, Acme Smoked Fish is the place. They supply all sorts of upscale delis in Manhattan and elsewhere. A little known local secret, is that on friday mornings, they sell all sorts of smoked fish 1/2 price at the factory where they smoke it. And I am lucky enough to live around the corner from them.... Yum!

Bains, France
Looking at magazines and seeing beautiful travel photos, I realize I have drawers full of slides that I would love to see bigger! Here's one...
I shot this on a trip to the south of France after being in Paris for a week with American Express, shooting their Travel Agent division and putting on a slide show for them. One of the challenges of that job, was going to the lab a few times a day in Paris, and communicating with the lab only in French. At least I knew enough French to get by and get my film processed correctly...

New Year's afternoon @ the Met
Where can you meet an old friend with another 5 year old boy when city schools are out for the second day in a row. The regular kid haunts are a zoo! How 'bout the Met! Always a favorite for young and old.
Good to start out outdoors in the Bear Playground for some serious playing, running, and using that #4 voice.
Then some promised ice cream to cool off and refuel.
First destination, mummies and the big Temple of Dendur. Stanley's convinced they can come back to life because the Pharoh and his whole army did in Scooby Doo.
Great to be in the wide open space and beautiful light.
Don't want to miss the sphinx
And the other highlight not to be missed in boytown, armor and weapons, always a must see!
A fun day was had by all!

Facebook is Fun
Facebook is so much fun. A friend and model I worked with in the 80s found me, she now has a 5 year old too, amazing! I dug up some photos we shot together, here are 2 that were published.
This was shot in the courtyard of the World Trade Center. We also did some great photos on the grounds of Battery City, back when it was a landfill art installation. Cosmo picked up this photo to use in an article on kissing, it was so hot South American Cosmo carried the story as well!
I got all the fun bookcovers. Photographer stalks the dark side...

The New York City Waterfalls
There is an installation of 4 waterfalls by Olafur Eliasson on the East River and in New York Harbor. We took the circle line boat to see them all. How wonderful and soothing to see waterfalls in New York City! I have seen some from the road, but it was such a wonderful experience seeing them all from the water.
Back at the seaport, we went aboard the Ambrose Light Ship which used to be a lighthouse in the water.
Captian at the helm!
One of the many tug boats in New York Harbor. Let's Tug!

Janet Hamlin, Illustrator
Hamdam Guantanamo Tribunal
My good friend Janet Hamlin used to work for AP and has made many trips to Guantanamo as a courtroom artist. She has been going back recently as a freelancer and posts some of her drawings and stories on her blog. Her work ranges from tribunals, to famous people who have contributed much to our society, to worldwide events, to the figure drawing classes she leads at the Hopper House in Nyack.
I love seeing her wonderful illustrations and always learn something about current events as well! Check out her stories! Janet Hamlin Illustration.

Transit Museum, Brooklyn
I love going on class/camp trips. The YMCA goes to the best places, and Transit Museum is always one of our favorites. It is in an old subway station. Every time we go back there is more to see...
